Designing a nursery for your newborn can be both exciting and daunting, particularly if you’ve never done it before. What sort of furniture will you need? What are the home decor essentials? You’ll want to make it as comfortable as possible, not only for your new baby but for you as well. Remember, you’ll be spending quite a lot of time in there, so you’ll want it to be fit for purpose.
Crib
One of the most important pieces of furniture in your new baby’s nursery will be the crib. This is where your baby will be getting most of its much needed sleep. Keep in mind that newborns will sleep for around 18 hours a day and will still sleep for around 15 hours a day even when they’re a month old. So it’s important that your baby’s crib is safe and comfortable.

It can be a good idea to invest in a quality crib, especially if you plan to have more kids. Storage
Babies have a lot of stuff and they require a lot of storage space to keep it all safe and organized. You’ll find that you need storage solutions for all sorts of stuff, from extra bedding and clothes to toys and books.
Shelving and bookcases can be ideal for a nursery, as both can be versatile options, housing your essentials, as well as being storage for books, toys and home decorations. Dresser drawers can also be handy for storing bedding and clothing. A toy chest or storage bench can be a fantastic solution for holding larger items and for preventing clutter.
Changing Mat
One of the most essential items in the nursery will be your changing mat. Whether you opt for a dedicated changing table or simply a changing mat on top of the dresser, it’s up to you. A changing mat can be a good idea for space saving, as it can be easily removed once your baby is out of diapers.
Remember that you’ll be going through a lot of diapers and when you’re changing your baby you’ll want to have all your essentials within arm’s reach. It can also be a good idea to have something hanging above the changing mat to keep your baby entertained and somewhat distracted.
Seating
Whether you’re nursing your child or trying to soothe them to sleep, a good chair can be a must-have item. You don’t have to go all out and spend a fortune, just as long as the chair is comfortable enough for you and your baby.
Rocking chairs can be great investments and can last for many years. They can also be easily incorporated into your home decor elsewhere in your home, such as your living room.
Your seating can reflect your personal taste and highlight your home decorations. As long as you’re comfortable, your baby should feel comfortable and relaxed too.
