Fantastic Family Days Out When You Live In Layton Utah

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge

A little over 30 minutes from Layton, the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge can be a great place for an educational day out with the family. Millions of birds use this important refuge as a migratory rest stop or as a nesting ground. Summer can be a great time to see baby birds, while spring and fall can be ideal for seeing migrating species. The park has a visitor center, regular educational programs and there are opportunities to fish, hunt and take photographs. There is also an auto-tour where you can drive on gravel roads and spot wildlife along the way.

Antelope Island State Park

Antelope Island State Park is one of the best family days out if you like to be outdoors and surrounded by nature. There are hiking and biking trails and lots of opportunities for wildlife watching. Keep your eyes peeled for the free roaming bison and pronghorn antelope, as well as the millions of birds that migrate through the park. The park can also be a fantastic place for kayaking or canoeing on Great Salt Lake and it’s also an International Dark Sky Park, so it can be a great spot for stargazing at night. If you want to make it an overnight trip to make the most of it, there are campgrounds within the park.

Lagoon Amusement Park

Lagoon Park can be a fantastic family day out, with something to entertain everyone, from younger kids to teens, as well as the adults. There are rides and attractions, including rapids and rollercoasters, plus shows, a pioneer village and even a water park; perfect for cooling down on a hot summer’s day.

Ogden’s George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park

The Dinosaur Park in Ogden can be a great place to spend a few hours with your family. Kids and adults alike will enjoy strolling through the five acres of grounds and admiring the replica dinosaurs on display. The park hosts several events throughout the year where kids can learn about dinosaurs and fossils.

Union Station, Ogden

Just a few minutes away from Layton is Union Station in downtown Ogden. This historic site is home to various museums where the whole family can learn about the history of Ogden and the importance of rail travel through the city, including seeing locomotives that date back to the 1800s. There’s also a classic car museum, marketplace and art galleries where you can pick up some beautiful home decorations.
