Now that spring is in full force, it’s time for some updating. We don’t mean large-scale renovations, though spring is usually the perfect time for those, too. All it takes are some simple touches. While you’re putting away all your heavy winter clothes, go ahead and pack up heavy fall and winter décor, too.

Kitchen:

Start with the windows. New window treatments can do wonders for any room, but you’ll definitely notice a difference in the kitchen, where you want as much light as possible.

If you like clean lines, choose chic roman shades with some color, simple white plantation shutters, or bamboo blinds. If your kitchen needs a softer touch, look for a sheer or light-colored valance.

Once you have the natural light, add some life, too. If you haven’t given in to the succulents trend yet, it might be time to take the plunge. They add wonderful texture, color, and sophistication to your décor—and they’re easy to take care of.

Dining:

Here’s another room where the simplest thing can make the biggest difference. The allure of a floral centerpiece is hard to overstate, but replace the traditional vase of flowers with a chic and simple mason jar tied with a burlap bow. Keep it filled daily with rustic wildflowers or beauties from your own garden. You can always do a row of jars for a longer table that makes one bouquet seem too small.

New placemats can bring in that spring feeling, too. You may want to mimic the real flowers with a floral print, or choose simpler color-block designs. Consider layering, too, with different sizes, textures, and colors for contrast. Whatever style you choose, placemats not only add color and texture but help keep the table neat, beautiful, and free of daily clutter.

Living room:

Nothing changes a space quite like new flooring—but chances are you don’t want the hassle of redoing your floor. For a spring update, the answer is a new area rug. Go big, and don’t be afraid to go bold, too. Then make sure there are coordinating pillows to tie the whole room together.

Bathroom:

You may not always associate wall art with the bathroom, but spring is a good time to make that connection. There’s a trend toward making bathrooms feel more like living spaces in décor and comfort, and wall art is a good first step.

 

No matter what your style, you can find something that will take your bathroom décor to the next level. Maybe the perfect piece is hiding in plain sight in another room. Simply moving wall décor from one room to another can give new life to the art and the room.
